Emerald Mountain Publishing (EMP) first published a climbers' guide to Cosumnes River "gorge" when guides at that time were out of print and nothing was available except for old hand-me-down copies. A later, more commercial guide supplanted it, although we still make it available. Also, EMP currently publishes an off-trail adventure-hiking guide (Crystal Classics) to the greater Desolation area, and areas along Highway 88. The Climbers' Guide to The Goblet Wall, - - -, is the latest addition, in January 2012.
This 32 page guide shows some 45 routes (including three pre-existing routes), developed during 2010 and 2011. The area is directly uphill from Lizard Head Rock in the Phantom Spires area. Authors are Jerry Klatt and Duane Lyons.

An excerpt from one of the hikes: "This is one of my favorites, as it offers very mixed terrain, some route finding problems, some 3rd & 4th class climbing (bypass-able), and hiking to the top of a mountain via a long ridge. There are spectacular views on either side, very interesting geology, including granitics, quartzes, metavolcanics, and their mixtures, and little bushwhacking is encountered."
